ORIGAMI WORKSHOPS LONDON

Foldability runs paper craft and origami workshops for brands and organisations in London, Munich and across the world. The workshops are mainly taught by paper artist Kyla McCallum who has over 15 years of teaching experience. Kyla also has a network of trained teachers around Europe which gives us the ability to run multiple workshops simultaneously for product launches or global events. Previous clients include Prada, Miu Miu, Google, Microsoft, Uniqlo, H&M, Michael Kors, Adidas and ITV. Our origami workshops are a great way for people to come together to do something creative and relaxing.

who is the teacher?

Kyla McCallum is a Scottish origami and paper artist based in Munich since April 2024 but still spends a lot of time in London working for UK clients. She discovered the joy of origami in 2007 whilst studying at The Glasgow School of Art and has been folding ever since.

During the pandemic Kyla ran online origami workshops for companies all across Europe, the US and Asia including Google, ITV and Mars but she has returned to doing ‘in person’ sessions only. As well as teaching origami workshops, Kyla produces large scale origami installations and artworks for brands such as Ted Baker, Lexus, H&M and Sotheby’s. Images of previous origami workshops can be found below and Kyla’s other origami projects can be seen here

Are the shapes difficult?

The origami workshops include shapes that look beautiful and complex but are surprisingly simple to learn, with clear instructions and a little patience.

The workshops run at a pace suited to the participants so that no one feels rushed to make it a relaxing experience. If you would like to book a series of workshops, we can teach more advanced shapes over time as the participants build up their confidence and skill level.

What materials do we need?

Foldability provides all materials required for the origami workshop. We supply luxury pearlescent papers and matt papers in a range of different colours, as well as glue, scissors, creasing tools and rulers where required. If you have a particular theme or colour scheme for the event, we are happy to tailor the colour scheme to fit. As an optional extra, we can also prepare kits for people to take away from the workshop so they can continue their origami creativity at home.

CAN WE USE RECYCLED PAPERS?

Some of our papers are recycled, however, often recycled paper has a higher carbon footprint due to the manufacturing process and the type of energy used. Therefore, we use EU sourced recycled as well as FSC certified papers and waste papers. We collect waste and off-cuts from the paper, print and packaging industry that are trimmed into squares and used for our workshops to try and reduce waste.

How long are the workshops?

We can customise the event to meet your requirements but group sessions are typically 1 - 2 hours. We also often do drop in workshops for a half or full day where a few hundred people stop by for 5 - 15 mins to learn one or two shapes at an event. We can also do a series of events where participants progress each week/month to make more complex origami shapes. This is particularly popular with corporate workshops where teams attend a block of origami workshops.

“Thank you so much for today’s workshop. It was such fun (I was the one who laughed almost all the way through) and so very inspiring. I was thrilled with my own creations, which felt like paper magic.”
